With over 20 years’ experience in the industry and a wide network extending into the construction and property development sectors, we believe he will exceedingly drive our Infrastructure & Utilities channel forward.
Sebastian will oversee all operations of the infrastructure and utilities channel and lead our existing team in their objectives and those of our valued clients and candidates. His expertise will be instrumental in transforming our business for, what we believe is, a bright future ahead.
Below, Sebastian dives deeper into his background, where his passion for the industry and recruitment came to life, his focus for the channel, and shares powerful advice for anyone considering a career in recruitment.
Tell us about your recruitment career so far.
My recruitment journey began in September 2002, obtaining a role recruiting for engineers, surveyors and spatial candidates into state government, local government and the private consulting sectors across Metropolitan Melbourne and Regional Victoria.
My position grew to managing a team supplying specialist staff to some significant infrastructure projects including but not limited to M1 Tunnels, Tulla- Calder Interchange, Calder Freeway (Numerous Bypasses), M1 Widening, Geelong Bypass and the Westgate Bridge Strengthening Project. We also placed numerous contractors interstate and overseas, namely, Fiji, Dubai and the Philippines.
Over the course of the past 6-7 years, I have further expanded my recruitment network working across the construction and property development sectors.
What made you choose infrastructure and utilities as your specialist area?
I’ve always loved recruiting in the infrastructure and utilities area which stems from growing up as a kid always building things in the shed or backyard, including a double story treehouse!
My passion for the built form has continued throughout my life completing projects as an Owner Builder, managing the process and being hands on. Building, managing, and maintaining projects is an outlet for me on the weekend.
Is there a particular client or candidate success story that has stuck with you during your career?
There have been a lot of great success stories over the years. From a client perspective I love seeing a company expand and grow, knowing that my team and I have been a major contributor to the success and growth of the company.
Some of the most memorable candidate placements I have made are those that I put into roles when they were graduates. Now those candidates I placed are running highly successful teams or even their own companies and they continue to utilise the service my team and I provide. A candidate you place who then becomes a client is a true success story in my eyes.
What do you see as the most important deliverables for your clients and candidates?
Communication is the most important factor when it comes to building relationships with clients and candidates alike. It needs to be constant, fluid, candid and constructive. You need to be able to provide a service, communicate well and deliver.
What will be your focus in your position as National Manager of Infrastructure & Utilities at Fuse?
We have an amazing group in Infrastructure & Utilities which gives us an excellent foundation to launch and grow in leaps and bounds. I couldn’t have asked for a better group who are all striving for common goals.
Our key focus will be to add additional staff to our offices in Melbourne, Brisbane, Sydney and Adelaide whilst providing opportunity for our existing staff to develop, grow and be promoted internally. At Fuse Recruitment, the strategic framework is in place to accelerate our group so that we can provide an even better streamlined service to our clients and candidates.
