Ramping up energy reliability and creating jobs for South Australians

​Australia takes the next step towards net-zero emissions after the Federal and South Australian governments signed a $1 billion deal.

South Australians can look forward to reduced energy costs in the future after the Federal and South Australian governments signed a $1 billion State Energy and Emissions Reduction Deal.

The deal aims to generate secure, reliable and affordable energy for South Australians and help the nation achieve its emissions reduction targets. As a result, South Australians will benefit from reduced energy bills and have access to more job opportunities.

As part of the agreement, the Federal government will provide $660 million and the South Australian government will provide $422 million.

Focuses of the deal include:

• an increased supply of reliable and affordable gas
• $400 million worth of funding for priority areas including carbon capture and storage, electric vehicles, hydrogen and other emission reduction projects
• $110 million worth of concessional finance for solar thermal and other storage projects
• $100 million of funding to support Project EnergyConnect which aims to improve energy flow between South Australia and New South Wales
