The future is looking bright for Australia as our manufacturers in Queensland receive much-needed funding to enhance their business capabilities.

The Queensland Government had announced a fourth round of Made in Queensland grants worth $15.5 million. The fourth round came in due time after the pandemic proved Australia’s manufacturing capabilities to be insufficient. The program, equaling $61.5 million, is part of the larger Advanced Manufacturing 10-Year Roadmap and Action Plan released by the Queensland Government in December 2016.

Made in Queensland grants will support small to medium-sized manufacturing businesses in Queensland to employ skilled staff and transform their capabilities to meet the needs for an Eligible Project. This will allow Queensland manufacturers to become more internationally competitive and have the chance to adopt innovative processes and technologies for their businesses.

Manufacturers in Queensland had the ability to apply for grants between $50,000 and $2.5 million.

Please note: This grant ended on the 20th of May. For more information about government funding into the manufacturing industry in Australia, click here .

Impressive outcomes for Queenslanders

The first three rounds of the program have generated over 1,100 new jobs for Queenslanders.

In 2017, Geofabrics Australasia received almost $500,000 to go towards a geosynthetic liner to prevent pollutants from escaping into the environment. A representative from Geofabrics Australasia said the grant allowed them to make Australia’s first Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) containment solution.

The grant ultimately allowed them to create more manufacturing, R&D and front of house jobs for the Queensland economy.

Supporting the manufacturing industry

In addition to this program, manufacturers across Australia have access to the $1.5 billion government funding part of the Modern Manufacturing Strategy (MMS) designed to enhance Australian manufacturing capabilities.
