My Story: How I found Recruitment

Have you ever had that moment when you try a type of food you’ve always thought you hated and are surprised to find you actually like the taste?

The same thing can happen in your career. Be open to taking on new opportunities, new challenges, and new roles.  Every new opportunity or experience is a chance to identify what you love and what you hate. Trying new things may lead to finding new passions – that’s how I ended up where I am now as a recruiter at Fuse. If things don’t work out, it’s okay to move on, but each opportunity is a chance to further learn what your true passion really is.

When I was younger if you had asked me what I thought my professional passion would be as an adult, I would’ve told you that I wanted to be an AFL player. Now that

I’m at a decent players retirement age, I am interested in helping others reach their full potential and want to contribute to the development of work that is satisfying and fulfilling.

My favourite part about being a recruiter is the challenge. I get a thrill from introducing people to companies. Making an impact on a person’s career as well as the future of a company’s growth is incredibly rewarding.  In an ideal recruitment world, everybody wins.  Although I wish it was as easy as it sounds, the work is hard, and I’ve had plenty of bad days. I’ve had people pull out of interviews and reject the job in the final stages, and I’ve been at fault more times than I’d like to admit, BUT it’s the persistence and resilience I have developed along the way that helps me get back on that horse to chase after the next role and candidate.

I kind of fell into this role but am so glad that I did. Having applied externally through Fuse for another position, for once I am glad that I was unsuccessful as it led to an offer internally as a recruitment consultant within the manufacturing team. I have learnt so much throughout my time here at Fuse and I am so glad to work alongside such supportive colleagues who make every day worthwhile. What’s even better is the interns I can bring in with me every now and then (my dogs). Although they only receive a pat on the back and the occasional odd treat, they are extremely positive and always take ownership of their tasks.

Above all, being a recruiter is rewarding, I help clients find the talent they need to power their businesses and help candidates find fulfilling jobs. At the end of the day, I get paid to make other people’s lives better. What could be more rewarding than that?
