Anxiously awaiting a response from a recruiter? Wish you knew what the process from application to recruitment decision was? The wait is over, from submitting your resume, to improving the process and outcome, here is everything you need to know.

1. Submit application – The first and most important step

You need to put your best foot forward to give yourself the best chance at beating your competition. Don’t fret, check out our best resume and CV tips here .

 2. Your application enters our database

Meet our applicant tracking system, Bullhorn. Bullhorn utilises a resume parsing software to create your profile and feeds information from your CV into relevant fields and extracts skills to ensure you return in our recruiter’s database skill searches.

TIP: Optimise your resume with your most relevant skills and industry keywords so you get captured accurately by resume parsers. Oh, and don’t forget to check your contact information is correct!

 3. Build your profile

Now it’s time to build your Fuse profile – it’s as simple as answering a series of short questionnaires that we send you directly by SMS and email. Questions include what type of work you are looking for, where you want to work, what’s most important to you and what categories are most relevant.

TIP: If you’re serious about getting a new job (and the right job) sooner, fill out our screening questionnaires as soon as possible. This will seriously help to get your profile in front of the right person sooner!

 4. Recruiters review

This is where our Consultants and Resourcers match applicants to the job brief; including demonstrated experience, location, qualifications, salary expectations and working rights. If you meet the brief, you’ll be contacted for phone screening. This is your time to shine – you get to tell the recruiter exactly why you’re the perfect candidate for this role. If our consultants believe you have the skills and experience the client has specified, you’ll be invited to complete a one-way video interview using a software called Spark Hire.

TIP: If you get asked to complete a video interview make sure you treat it as a regular interview and wear a professional outfit, and don’t forget to ensure your background is tidy! Check out more tips for filming one-way interviews here .

 5. Face-to-face interviews

You’ve nailed your phone screen and video interview, now it’s time for a face-to-face interview. You may be invited into our office for an interview with a Consultant before heading to meet your new potential employer. Here you can work with your recruiter to prepare for the employer interview. If all goes well at your first employer meeting you may be invited for a second round of interviews, depending on the seniority of the role you have applied for. Check our blog to find questions you may be asked in an interview and questions that you should ask in an interview here!

TIP: Familiarise yourself with the company across ALL platforms; look for points that will likely be relevant for your role and ask questions in your interview. Plus! If you get offered a glass of water – always say yes (and offer to clean it up after)! Read our full interview guide here .

 6. Offer & acceptance

The news you have been waiting for. Our team will contact you and tell you that you have been offered the role! Hopefully if you’ve had any concerns or doubts before now, you will have communicated those with your recruiter; but if you haven’t then now is the time. Once you verbally accept the role, we’ll get a contract created and sent to you electronically. When you resign it is common for your current employer to counteroffer your resignation. In this case, it’s a good idea to remember why you applied for a new role in the first place. But, in the case you need help navigating the counteroffer, simply discuss this with your recruiter or check out our blog here .

 7. Start your new job!

Congratulations! You’re about to start a new chapter. Your hard work has paid off and your new company has seen your potential.
